Our Church

An Anglican Church in the Evangelical tradition, Christ Church was founded some years ago as a Holiday Chaplaincy serving visitors to the tourist resort of Ayia Napa.

WHAT STYLE OF CHURCH?

Although orthodox in our beliefs and doctrines, we maintain a ‘mixed’ style of worship and practice and have grown into a fellowship of people from various denominations - Baptist, Methodist, Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Salvationist and other Free Churches.

All are welcome and made to feel welcome.

Although we are a ‘mixed’ family in worshipping and serving the Gospel, we maintain an ‘Anglican’ identity. This means our system of church governance is based on the principle of ‘Episcopal Oversight’ whereby The Bishop appoints the Chaplain.

A BIT OF HISTORY

Why ‘Chaplain?’ Why not Vicar, Priest or Minister? That’s our little bit of history. When the British Army took over Cyprus at the end of the Ottoman Empire, the Army brought their ‘Chaplains’ with them. That title has stuck!

WHAT HAPPENS ON SUNDAYS?

We meet each Sunday morning at 11:00. All our services feature the proclamation of the Gospel plus Bible teaching. Whilst following the lectionary, teaching will often be through a themed ‘series’ based on a book of the Bible or a Discipleship topic.

AND THE OTHER SIX DAYS?

We hold a range of midweek activities that are open to all - ranging from home based groups and outreach social events such as Men’s Breakfast, Ladies Lunch and regular Coffee & Chat informal gatherings.

Throughout the year we also arrange special services away from our regular Church venue – at Cape Greko for example.

We also organise a Christmas Carol Service that is open to the public and typically held at Ayia Napa Town Hall. We work in partnership with the municipality of Ayia Napa to support their work in assisting needy families in the area with gifts of non-perishable ( food ) items
